Are you sure you want to use up a hint?

At first, the object of Doodle Fit seems simple enough. For each level, you must place a set of differently shaped blocks into a given shape. You drag blocks in and out of the shape in search for the layout that covers the whole shape. You cannot flip the blocks around as you do in Tetris, however. A level is complete when all blocks have been used and there's no more free space in the shape.
Make It Fit
The first few levels are relatively simple and are designed to get you used to the game's concept and controls. Doodle Fit eventually evolves into a maddening game of geometric logic. Once you unlock the higher levels, get ready for hours of brain-frying puzzlers as you try to fit those darn blocks into increasingly complex shapes.
Get a Clue
If you're at your wits' end, you can raise the white flag and get a hint. When you solve two levels, you're allotted one hint. Because of the limited amount of hints, be sure to use a hint only if you're totally stuck. And no, you can't use a crowbar to cram those blocks in.
Hours of Puzzling Pleasure
Challenge yourself with more than 100 levels involving unique shapes. Many of the puzzles actually have more than one solution; there are almost 250 solutions in total. Doodle Fit features doodle-style graphics with two themes: notebook and chalkboard. Keep track of your stats, including levels solved, solutions found, games played, and time spent. Save up to five profiles so you can compare scores with your fellow Doodle Fit engineers. A cheerful 32-bit melody accompanies the puzzles. S

Debt-limit delay would jeopardize Social Security payments

"It shows that in August, the government could not afford to meet 44% of its obligations. Since the $134 billion deficit for that month couldn't be covered with more borrowing, programs would have to be cut.
If Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment benefits, payments to defense contractors and interest payments on Treasury bonds were exempt, that would be all the government could afford for the month. No money for troops or veterans. No tax refunds. No food stamps or welfare. No federal salaries or benefits."

Its truly hard to imagine how unconscionable it would be if the debt ceiling isn't raised, it would literally impact millions of people. To think this is fast approaching in August. Read the full article here.

A Journey Through The 1955 Guidebook

Check out this scanned Disneyland guide from 1955 before the park opened at Disney by mark.
You can even download the full guide in pdf here.

The 1955 Guidebook was produced before Disneyland opened. If fact many of the attractions were in the process of being built. Because of this, it’s full of beautiful concept artwork and some surprises too.

Will the Spook's love of a witch cloud his judgement, read Tom, Alice, and the Spook fight the winter's encroaching darkness.
If you havent read the series its great, and easy to read. Fans of Harry Potter will enjoy this series.

Amazon Free App 06/28/11 Apparatus Its really fun

Apparatus

Product Features

  • Play this addictive, physics-based construction game on your Android device
  • Build a machine that sends your marble rolling toward its goal
  • Choose from materials like wooden planks, wheels, batteries, ropes, and motors
  • Be creative as you mastermind Rube Goldberg-like gadgets
  • Share your creations and test your skills on other players' machines

Product Description
Apparatus
What gadget would you build with these materials?
Apparatus
To get the ball rolling, start simple and learn the basics
Apparatus
Once you've got the hang of it, get complex
Build a complex machine to perform a simple task in Apparatus, an addictive, brainteasing game for your Android phone or tablet device. The only limits are your creativity and the laws of physics as you create mechanical structures that send marbles rolling toward a final goal.
You'll begin the game with a few objects and a single goal: to send your marble rolling until it lands in a blue, bucket-like container. You're free to build any kind of machine you want with the materials you're given, and creativity is essential.
Rube Goldberg Would Be Proud
Use the hammer or wrench to connect wooden planks, wheels, and other objects. Connect cables from batteries to motors, build bridges, set up teeter-totters, swing with ropes, build vehicles, or just give the marble a convoluted, Rube Goldberg-style roller coaster ride.
Want to create a fabulously complex mechanism for moving the marble a few inches? Or maybe you'd rather make a sleek, efficient structure that allows your marble to travel a long way in as few steps as possible. It's all up to you.
Once you've constructed a machine, just touch the "play" button at the top of the screen. This will get the ball rolling, and you'll see how your creation stands up to the test of physics: if it's not stable, or the marble's progress gets obstructed at some point, you'll know immediately that your machine needs more work.
Play Challenge Levels or Go Freestyle
There are two ways to play Apparatus: you can progress from level to level, like in a standard video game, or you can eschew all convention and go straight to the Sandbox for freebuild mode.
In conventional play, the early levels teach you how to play the game and go through some basic concepts. The more you progress, the more freedom the challenge levels provide; many levels can be solved in many different ways. Of course, they also get more difficult as you go along.
If you don't have the inclination (or patience) to face the challenge levels, why not just play around in the Sandbox and build whatever comes to mind? After touching the Sandbox prompt in the main menu, you'll be given a blank slate. All possible materials are at your disposal, and there are no rules (except that pesky principle of gravity). Here's where you can really set your creativity loose.
Building Community One Gadget at a Time
If you're really proud of one of your creations, share it with other Apparatus players. Every time you complete a level, you can go into freebuild mode and modify the level however you like. If you make the level better, or just harder, you can upload it to the Community section and let other people play your modified level.
Same goes for your Sandbox. After you've created something amazing, log in to your free account and share the machine with anyone else out there. You can download and comment on other players' creations, too.
Apparatus
Terrific for Tablets, Fun on Your Phone
Apparatus is officially supported on these phones and tablets:
  • Nexus One
  • Samsung Galaxy S
  • HTC Desire HD
  • HTC Desire
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab
  • ZTE Blade
Note: A minimum processor speed of 600MHz is recommended. A screen resolution of 800 x 480 or higher is recommended, as well, but the game runs on lower resolutions.

The Traveller by John Twelve Hawks

Book one of the Forth Realm Trilogy was an action packed 608 pages. The Gist: Travellers are people who can travel through out of body experiences to other dimensions. These Travellers come back being "enlightened" often sparking change for good. Harlequins are essentially people who actively seek out Travellers and defend (often with swords) them from the Brethren. The Brethren are the vast machine if you will, they are out to control society and make everything run smoothly. They do this with technology (they moniter everything) and violence (they hunt Travellers).

The Brethren have infiltrated the highest ranks of society, government, business, etc. They use thier power to forward thier agenda, i.e. internet monitering, video survelance cameras, RFID chips, and much more. The book is a veiled allagory about the advancement of the technological police state. A vast conspiracy is pulling the strings to keep society at heel. A national id card, the tracking of all fininacial transactions, gps sattelites, and internet monitering. These tools and more used to keep the sheep in the herd and the wolf in charge.

Trully a modern upgrade of We the People or books of that ilk. Its a fun read and a definate page turner. Conspiricists will love its plotlines. Check it out.

Todays Amazon Free App is Big Sport Fishing

Product Description
Big Sport Fishing 3D
Catch your fish in a variety of locations
Big Sport Fishing 3D

Big Sport Fishing 3D splashes onto your mobile phone in style in this competitive fishing simulation. Don't worry though, your phone won't run into any water damage with this app. Still, you'll be treated to beautiful panoramic views and realistic visuals to immerse yourself in the world of a competitive fisherman. The view changes as you move your phone for a true simulation of the sport. Just flick your wrist to cast your line out and hear it splash into the water, searching for one of the many fish swimming below.
Five Rounds to Fish
Each level of the game is broken up into five rounds where you'll work to catch a variety of fish. You have five minutes per round to catch as many fish as you can, with each fish worth a certain amount of money based on the type of fish and its weight. A small tackle box will appear on the screen allowing you to select from a variety of bait. Different types of lure will yield different results when fishing. Choose the correct lure for the type of fish you're looking to catch. You can save the game at the end of each round and visit the bait shop to buy better lures. These fish can be finicky eaters so make your purchase wisely. Earn as much money as possible by catching as many fish as you can.
Big Sport Fishing 3D
Go shark watching and cast out your reel
Feel the Reel
The controls let you experience the thrilling struggle of hooking a big fish on your line. Change the direction of your cast by holding the phone in front of you and moving your body. The phone points in the direction you want to cast. You can also rotate by swiping your finger across the screen to the left or right. Utilize your phone's tilt sensors to put yourself out on the boat and in the boots of a real fisherman.
Cast Away
Your phone's compass is used to determine the direction you are facing. You can tap the small compass icon in the lower left corner at any point to freeze the compass rotation for more accurate and steady casting. To cast, hold the phone upright with the screen facing you and simply flick your wrist as though the phone were the handle of a fishing rod. The faster you flick, the further the line travels. There's no need to throw your phone though since a fairly casual flick is enough to cast the maximum distance. Experiment with your casting style until you get the hand of it and find the sweet spot.
Fishing Tactics
Once you've completed your cast, you must reel the line in until you catch your prize. You then need to hook your fish by pulling back on your phone much like you would the handle of a fishing rod when hooking a real fish. The phone will vibrate to simulate a fish nibbling on your bait. A small hook symbol will also appear at the top of the screen whenever a fish is biting. Once you have a fish on the line, a colored bar will appear at the top of your screen. This bar indicates how well the hook is set. Initially it will be colored red which means the fish is close to getting away. To catch the fish you must get this bar as close to full as possible. Prepare yourself for battle as the fish will fight for their life and you'll feel your phone vibrate forcefully.

We'll all have to wait until Dec. 14, 2012, for the full fruits of director Peter Jackson's labors on his two-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's Hobbit. But, to tide us over, Jackson has shared the first images from his Lord of the Rings prequels with EW — and talked to us about how the fantasy epic is shaping up so far. (For the full story, pick up the issue of Entertainment Weekly on stands June 24.)
MARTIN FREEMAN (BILBO BAGGINS)
''He fits the ears, and he's got some very nice feet,'' Jackson says of his Bilbo. ''I think he's got the biggest hobbit feet we've had so far. They're a little bit hard to walk in, but he's managed to figure out the perfect hobbit gait.''

Social Security Solvency

I always think its amusing that congress talks about solving Social Security's long term solvency issue. Stephen Goss the Chief Actuary of SSA spoke at the House Ways and Means Committee yesterday, heres a link to his testimoney. As always, discussion about the 1.5% of GDP gap that occurs by 2035 between the projected cost and Non-interest Income is the high point. In not techinical terms its this 1.5% gap that means Social Security will begin to pay out more to beneficiaries then it takes in from taxes. If we do nothing then only 77% of scheduled benefits could be paid starting in 2036, as someone whos minimium retirement age is 2044 it can be both abstract and alarming.

Currently Socical Security taxes (OASDI on your paycheck) only tax wages up to $106,800 which currently covers somewhere around 82.5% of all earnings. That means that people who earn above $106,800 arent subject to paying taxes on thier excess earnings into Social Security. Of the 14 proposed options that for either increasing revenue or reducing benefits that congress has investigated only two options eliminate the proposed shortfall.

1) Eliminate the OASDI taxable maximun amount between 2011  and 2017, with no additional benefit credit. Basically eliminate the Cap which for the last two years has been at $106,800. Republicans call this a tax increase, which essentially it is, but I personally dont feel bad about people who would have to start paying Social Security taxes on thier income above the $106,800 cap. The alternative idea 2) Price index inital benefits across generations beginning 2017. Reduce all PIA factors (90,32,15) by real growth in average earnings. In basic terms the current formula used to compute a monthly benefit for a person is the Average Indexed Monthly Earnings (AIME) formula, which adds your top 35 years of earnings over your lifetime adjusting for inflation and averages the amount to calculate your benefit. Its a seven step calculation which you can see/do here.

2) Starting in 2017 reduce the indexing factors which would then reduce the final calculated benefit amount, new benefits would be lowered for all new beneficiaries. This is a favored option of Republicans as it prevents a "tax increase" on the rich, but alternatively it reduces benefits for new filers who may need the income, i.e. the poor, middle class, or disabled. In the end its only these two proposed options that eliminate this gap, not rasing the retirement age, minimium retirement age, or reduction of the COLA, means testing, investing benefits in an index fund, etc. Saving Social Security is just about class warfare, whats the solution?

Congressional Budget Office Long Term Budget Outlook Report.

CBO Report Excerpt:
According to CBO's projections, if current laws remained in place, spending on the major mandatory health care programs alone would grow from less than 6 percent of GDP today to about 9 percent in 2035 and would continue to increase thereafter. Spending on Social Security is projected to rise much less sharply, from less than 5 percent of GDP today to about 6 percent in 2030, and then to stabilize at roughly that level. Altogether, the aging of the population and the rising cost of health care would cause spending on the major mandatory health care programs and Social Security to grow from roughly 10 percent of GDP today to about 15 percent of GDP 25 years from now. (By comparison, spending on all of the federal government's programs and activities, excluding interest payments on debt, has averaged about 18.5 percent of GDP over the past 40 years.) That combined increase of roughly 5 percentage points for such spending as a share of the economy is equivalent to about $750 billion today. If lawmakers ultimately modified some provisions of current law that might be difficult to sustain for a long period, that increase would be even larger.

This is a link to the full report:
http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/122xx/doc12212/2011_06_22_summary.pdf

Comment:
The problem I have with the CBO report is that it lumps Social Security's cost with the other "Entitlement" programs like Medicare and Medicaid. Even the CBO report notes that what Social Security pays out now in benefits as reported by the 2011 Trustee Report reflected only 5 percent of GDP with it only increasing to a moderate 6 percent of GDP by 2030, but Social Security is fully funded by its own trust funds.  In the short term as the OASDI taxes that are currently being collected from employees fall short of required benefit payouts hence the Trust Funds are being drawn upon. So in technical terms Social Security benefits are budget neutral, they cost nothing. The government pays no monies out of its general revenue to pay Social Security benefits. Social Security is required to purchase US Treasury bonds with the tax revenue it receives. It like any other debt holder of  US Treasury debt expects to be paid. If Social Security was a Large Private Pension with 2+ Trillion dollars of US Treasury Bonds it would also be "contributing" to the US budget woes. We must keep Social Security solvent by eliminating the tax cap on employee wages. This would eliminate both the long term and short term issues Social Security faces.

Product Description (From Amazon)

In the fifth installment of this bestselling series, the twins of prophesy have been divided, and the end is finally beginning.
With Scatty, Joan of Arc, Saint Germain, Palamedes, and Shakespeare all in Danu Talis, Sophie is on her own with the ever-weakening Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel. She must depend on Niten to help her find an immortal to teach her Earth Magic. The surprise is that she will find her teacher in the most ordinary of places.

My review (Five Stars)
If youve read the first four books then you know the story contains lots of mythical creatures, famous historical people, supernatural monsters etc. At 368 pages it made for an easy read. Classic story of good fighting evil and the battle for the world. With the last installment of the series comming out Summer of 2012 you can bet The Warlock will keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see if the the human world does end. I particularly love the modern setting and how magic is all around us we just never payed any attention.  Fans of books like Deborah Harkness's A Discovery of Witches would love this series and its a big recommend from me.
